Swiss films present at Mar del Plata

At the 22nd Festival Internacional de Cine de Mar del Plata, taking place from March 8 – 18, 2007, seven Swiss films and co-productions will be shown. “Vitus” by Fredi M. Murer, which will also be released in Argentine movie theatres this year, will be introduced in the “Punto de Vista” section. Also presented in this section will be the feature film “To Get To Heaven You Have to Die” by Tajikistan director Dhamshed Usmonov, which was co-produced by Saga Productions, Lausanne. The film “Madonnas” by Maria Speth (co-produced by Cineworx, Basel), which premiered at the Berlinale, will be part of the international competition. The documentary film “Zeit des Abschieds” by Mehdi Sahebi – winner of the Critics’ Week at Locarno and at the “Entrevues” festival in Belfort in 2006 – will be screened in the “Ventana Documental” section.
In the “Focus on Maghreb” series, the 2002 documentary film “War Without Images – Algeria, I Know that You Know” by Mohammed Soudani will be shown. Two short films round out the Swiss presence in Mar del Plata: the animated film “Man Without A Shadow” by Georges Schwizgebel, which will be presented in the “Caloi en su tinta” program, and the film “Nightfluttering” by Carmen Stadler, which won the Golden Leopard in Locarno, and will be shown in the “Lo que vendrá” section for new talents.
The Festival Internacional de Cine de Mar del Plata is the only film event in Latin America recognized by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations FIAPF as a first category festival. It is headed by Argentine film director Miguel Pereira.
