Swiss films in “Film Lovers Heaven” in Bangkok
04.11.2009
The audience at the 7th International World Film Festival of Bangkok (November 6-15, 2009) will have the opportunity to enjoy a comprehensive Swiss film programme for the first time. It comprises an Alain Tanner retrospective with six feature films and five works by the new generation of Swiss filmmakers. The international festival will close with an open-air screening of “Rocksteady – The Roots Of Reggae” by Stascha Bader. The festival has organised the Swiss presence together with the film promotion agency SWISS FILMS, and is supported by the Swiss embassy in Thailand.
This year’s motto of the World Film Festival is “Film Lovers Heaven”. Its venue is the Paragon Cineplex, located in one of the largest shopping centers in Asia, with 14 cinemas with seating for up to 1,200 people. This is the first time a retrospective in Thailand has been devoted to the luminary Alain Tanner, who celebrates his 80th birthday this year. It concentrates on his earlier works, beginning with “Charles mort ou vif” and concluding with “Dans la ville blanche”.
The young generation of Swiss filmmakers is present in Bangkok with Ursula Meier’s multi-award-winning feature film “Home” as well as the four following documentary films: “Going Against Fate” by Viviane Blumenschein; “Nomad’s Land” by Gaël Métroz; “Sex Toys Story” by Anne Deluz and Béatrice Guelpa; and “Rocksteady – The Roots Of Reggae”.
The World Film Festival is a major cultural event in Bangkok. Seventy-seven feature and documentary films and 53 short films will be screened in 11 sections.
