“Melodias” by François Bovy – recently nominated for the 2005 European Film Awards – will be shown in the category “Documentary Films” and “Maria Bethânia, música é perfume” by Georges Gachot will be presented in the “New Directors” competition at the Sao Paulo International Film Festival. Both directors will be in attendance. The 29th Mostra Internacional de Cinema, one of the most important film festivals in Latin America, is taking place from October 21 to November 3, 2005. In the “Perspectives” program, feature films “Absolut” by Romed Wyder and “St. Francis Bird Tour” by Clemens Klopfenstein will be shown. Klopfenstein is also a member of the international jury.
All Swiss films invited to Brazil have already established a remarkable record: “Maria Bethânia, música é perfume” and “Melodias” have been shown at numerous international festivals after their premieres at the Nyon International Documentary Festival. The movie “St. Francis Bird Tour”, most recently screened at the Warsaw International Film Festival, has also received much international attention, while “Absolut”, after receiving more than 20 invitations to international film festivals, will begin its theatrical distribution in Germany in December.

In addition George Gachot presents his film “Martha Argerich, Evening Talks” at the festival. The co-production “Agata And the Storm” by Silvio Soldini (Production: Amka Films, Savosa) has also been invited. Finally, “Fortuna Berlin” by Donatella Bernardi will be shown in the “Short Films” program.

In 2004, “The Definition of Insanity” by Frank Matter and Robert Margolis was part of the festival competition.
