Swiss film “Tandoori Love” forges link to Indian film industry

20.03.2008

Swiss film director Oliver Paulus flew to Mumbai (Bombay) to spend a week at FRAMES, the trade fair of the Asian entertainment industry, which was held from March 25 – 27. Paulus was invited to speak on the making of his most recent film “Tandoori Love” and participate at a meeting geared to co-productions, attended by representatives of Indian film industry. His fiction film “Wir werden uns wiederseh’n”, produced in 2006, was presented in the Indian film metropolis in conjunction with the 10th Mumbai International Film Festival from March 6 – 13.
The film “Tandoori Love” (production: Cobra Film, Zurich) is scheduled for completion this year in summer. It tells of the romance between a Swiss waitress and the personal chef of an Indian film diva and is set in Bernese Oberland, the scene of numerous Bollywood film productions. Until now such productions have been regarded as exotic cult cinema and a welcome stimulus for tourism in Switzerland; Oliver Paulus’ film serves to bridge the two cultures of Switzerland and India. Switzerland was invited as the guest country for this year’s edition of FRAMES, which was organized by the Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI). The presentation of “Tandoori Love” (clips thereof) by film director Oliver Paulus was made possible thanks to “Presence Switzerland” and the Swiss consulate general in Mumbai. Apart from heads of Bollywood studios, important delegations from Hollywood and Europe – including Viviane Reding, EU commissioner for information society and media – are also expected to attend this three-day trade fair of the film and entertainment industry in Mumbai.
