Swiss film productions for cinema and television at FIPA in Biarritz

Four Swiss documentary and feature films will participate in the competition of the 23rd International Festival of Audiovisual Programs (FIPA) in Biarritz, which runs from January 26-31, 2010. Three further documentary films and two short films will be screened in other festival programmes, thus rounding off the strong Swiss presence at this major festival in France. The following documentary films will be screened in the Reportage and Current Affairs competition: “Dharavi, Slum For Sale” by Lutz Konermann (production: Hugo Film, Zurich); “Dirty Paradise” by Daniel Schweizer (Dschoint Ventschr, Zurich); and “Kalash” by Gaël Métroz (Tipi’mages, Geneva). The cinematic adaptation of Musset’s play “Les caprices de Marianne“ by Elena Hazanov and Jean Liermier (PointProd, Geneva) will be presented in the Performing Arts competition.
Stefano Knuchel’s film about the cartoonist Hugo Pratt, “Hugo en Afrique”, which premiered at the Mostra in Venice, will be screened in Biarritz in the Aspects of European Production programme. The television production “Canto al paisaje soñado” by Oliver Primus and Arno Oehri about the Argentine musician Eduardo Falú will be presented in the same section. The documentary film for television “Die Hölle im Paradies” by Frank Garbely will be screened in the Creative Documentaries programme. In addition, the festival will present the short films “Les yeux de Simone” by Jean-Louis Porchet (CAB Productions, Lausanne) and “Schonzeit” by Irene Ledermann (Zurich School of the Arts).

The festival’s new artistic director is Italian Teresa Cavina, who was responsible for the film selection and served as co-director of the Locarno International Film Festival from 1998 to 2005.
