Swiss film productions featured in the Alsace

Switzerland will be featured as the guest country at the 5th “Augenblick Festival – Alsace” (March 17-April 3, 2009). The festival, which devotes its programme to German-speaking films, is held in Mulhouse, Saint-Louis und other cities in the Alsace. The festival will open with the documentary film “Marchand d’art – Ernst Beyeler” by Thomas Isler and Philippe Piguet (Freihändler Filmproduktion, Basel) in Altkirch on March 17. Participating in the competition are the films “Luftbusiness” by Dominique De Rivaz and “Chicken Mexicaine” by Armin Biehler, which have been proposed for the Carte blanche by SWISS FILMS. the national promotion agency.
Apart from the three films mentioned above, the Carte blanche also comprises “Lenz” by Thomas Imbach and “Die Herbstzeitlosen” by Bettina Oberli. Two other films will be screened again at the festival in commemoration of the 5th edition of “Augenblick”: “Mein Name ist Eugen” by Michael Steiner and the award-winning film “Vitus” by Fredi M. Murer, which was presented in Strasburg in 2007. At the closing ceremony on April 3, the festival will present the short animation films “Die Seilbahn” by Claudius Gentinetta and Frank Braun, “Elvira” by Sabina Lattman and “Wimper” by Marcel Hobi.

The festival, with Claude Brasseur as ist director, collaborates with the network of art-house cinemas in the Alsace and aims to promote greater exposure for German-speaking films from Germany, Luxemburg, Austria and Switzerland throughout the rest of France. Moreover, the ambitious festival director has also founded a film distribution firm specifically for this purpose.
