Swiss film premieres in Montreal

Two Swiss fiction films will celebrate their premieres in Montreal at the 32nd World Film Festival (August 21-September 1, 2008): “Sunny Hill” by Luzius Rüedi in the “First Films World Competition”; and “Du bruit dans la tête” by Vincent Pluss in the “Focus on World Cinema” section. Two documentary films, three short films and a minority co-production are also contributing to the strong presence of Swiss film productions at this major festival in North America.
The documentary films “Claudette” by Sylvie Cachin and “Une année de sable” by Eric Grant will be screened in the festival’s “Documentaries of the World” section. The short film “Ombre” by Alberto Meroni, together with the short animation films “Tango Lola” by Izabela Rieben and Sami Ben Youssef and “Die Seilbahn” by Claudius Gentinetta and Frank Braun will be presented in the “Focus on World Cinema” section. Also selected for screening in this section is the film “Masángeles” by the Uruguayan director Beatriz Flores Silva (co-production: Peacock, Zurich).
The film “Sunny Hill”, produced by the relatively new firm from Zurich called “Das Kollektiv”, tells the story of six young people who have decided to make a final trip together in the Swiss Alps, where they plan to abandon their lives forever. What they hadn’t considered, however, was that a common decision is not necessarily all it takes to conclude six different fates in the same way. In the film “Du bruit dans la tête” by French-Swiss director Vincent Pluss (winner of the Swiss Film Prize in 2003 for “On dirait le Sud”), a young journalist and young street seller cross paths in the streets of Geneva. By means of an inner monologue, the film reveals what is going on in their minds.
