Swiss documentary films in Sheffield

05.11.2007

“Heimatklänge” by Stefan Schwietert (production: maximage Zürich and zero one film Berlin) and “Staub” by Hartmut Bitomsky (MA.JA.DE Filmproduktion, Leipzig, and Dschoint Ventschr Filmproduktion, Zurich) will be screened at the 14th Sheffield International Documentary Film Festival, taking place in the Midlands of England from November 7 – 11, 2007. The two documentary films for the cinema were co-produced in Switzerland and Germany.
The Sheffield Doc/Fest, England’s largest festival devoted exclusively to non-fiction films, also serves as the meeting point for British documentary filmmaking, which is largely shaped by BBC TV productions. As a prelude to the awarding of the British Documentary Film Prize in London on November 23, the winners of the Grierson Awards (in three categories) will be announced in Sheffield: nominated for “The Green Award” is the Swiss film “A Crude Awakening – The Oil Crash” by Basil Gelpke and Ray McCormack (Lava Productions Zürich). The film, which was presented in Edinburgh in August 2006, will be released in British cinemas on November 9 (distributor: Dogwoof Pictures).
