Four Swiss documentary film productions or coproductions will be running this autumn in cinemas in Paris and France. Vadim Jendreyko’s film “Die Frau mit den 5 Elefanten”, which was awarded the Swiss Film Prize Quartz 2010, will be released on October 13 (distribution: Nour Film). The film “Bassidji” by Iranian director Mehran Tamadon, a coproduction with Box Production in Lausanne, will start on October 20 (Alouest Distribution), while “Fix me” by Palestinian director Raed Andoni, coproduced by Akka Films in Geneva, will be running on French screens as of November 17 (Sophie Dulac Distribution). This run of documentary films in France begins with a festive opening on October 2, featuring Eric Bergkraut’s film “Zimmer 202” at the Gare de l’Est in Paris, which is where the film was shot. Bergkraut will attend the screening together with author Peter Bichsel, who is portrayed in the film.

The screening was organised by French distributor Nour Films in collaboration with the French National Railroad SNCF, the Municipal Office in Paris and the Swiss embassy in Paris and will take place in the entrance hall of the railway station. This is where Peter Bichsel spent almost all of his time during his first trip to Paris, fearing that the real Paris would spoil the ideal image of Paris he had treasured since his childhood.

Ticket sales for Jean-Stéphane Bron's documentary film "Cleveland Versus Wall Street" (distributor: Films du Losange), which was released in mid-August, have already exceeded the 50,000 mark in France and is still running in numerous cinemas. In a country where documentary film productions generally have a hard time in cinemas, such a remarkable presence for Swiss filmmaking is indeed a welcome trend.
