Swiss documentary film wins award in Leipzig
05.11.2007
The Swiss documentary film “La mere” by Antoine Cattin and Pavel Kostomarov, a co-production with France and Russia, was presented the MDR (Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk) Film Prize at the 50th International Leipzig Festival “DOK Leipzig” (October 29 – November 4, 2007). The monetary prize amounts to 3,000 euros.
The five-member jury of the international documentary film competition summarized its motivation for choosing the film “La mere” for the MDR Film Prize as follows: “With great intensity and proximity, we gain insight into the life of a mother with nine children who live deep in the Russian countryside. Although everyday life is hard and bleak, it is still full of energy, love and exudes a zest for life. Daily affairs are managed exclusively by women. Ljuba alternates from sheltering, arguing, crying and laughing at a breathtaking pace. Both camera and montage draw us into this maelstrom of events and blows of fate time and again.”
The Swiss-Russian team of directors had already been honoured with the Silver Dove in Leipzig in 2004 for its previous documentary film “Vivre en paix”.
