The popular Filmfest München in the Bavarian capital is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year (June 29-July 7, 2012). Markus Imboden’s successful film “Der Verdingbub” will be screened in the Spotlight section, which features international premieres and discoveries. With ticket sales of over 235'000, the fiction film has come to rank as the most successful Swiss film for the past five years. “Abrir puertas y ventanas,” the debut film by Swiss-Argentine director Milagros Mumenthaler will be screened in the festival’s CineVision section, the competition for the best non-German film by an emerging director. The film has had nearly 30 festival invitations within one year and been honoured with more than ten awards – beginning with the Golden Leopard in Locarno and including the most prestigious award at the film festival in Mar del Plata – the fiction film has launched an extremely successful international career.
Actress Ingrid Caven will present Daniel Schmid’s film adaptation of Fassbinder’s “Garbage, The City And Death” in Munich, among others: “Schatten der Engel” is the only film starring Rainer Werner Fassbinder and Ingrid Caven together in the leading roles; the two were married from 1970 to 1972. Daniel Schmid’s film will be screened in conjunction with the festival’s homage to Rainer Werner Fassbinder, who died thirty years ago.
