Strong Swiss presence at Istanbul International Film Festival

The documentary film “the Giant Buddhas” by Christian Frei is part of the international competition for the “Golden Tulip Award” at the 25th Istanbul International Film Festival, taking place from April 1-16, 2006. The international competition features eleven films in its program focusing on art, artists, and films based on literary works. In “Human Rights Cinema”, an additional Swiss documentary film will be presented: “White Terror” by Daniel Schweizer (Production: Dschoint Ventschr, Zurich).
The feature film “Heidi” by Markus Imboden (Production: Vega Film, Zurich) is one of five films showcased in the new festival section “Merry-Film Round”, with previously awarded children’s films. In the “Freedom to Women” section is the co-production “Delwende” by S. Pierre Yameogo (Co-production: Thelma Films, Zurich).
A series of classics such as “The Lacemaker” by Claude Goretta (1977), and “Every Man for Himself” by Jean-Luc Godard (1980) – both Swiss-French co-productions – are dedicated to Isabelle Huppert (“A French Diva: Isabelle Huppert”), who is opening the festival along with Alain Delon.
