Rolando Colla’s short fiction film “Einspruch VI” (production: Peacock Film, Zurich) won the Special Jury Prize, endowed with EUR 4,000, at the 34th International Short Film Festival in Clermont-Ferrand (January 27 - February 4, 2012). This is the second highest award following the Grand Prix at the world’s most important festival for short film productions. The film, told from the subjective perspective of an asylum-seeker whose application was rejected, celebrated its premiere in the International Competition in Clermont, together with 77 films. Abel Jafri, one of the actors in the film, attended the award ceremony to accept the “Vercingetorix” trophy personally. Robert-Jan Lacombe’s 40-minute documentary film “Retour à Mandima” (production: ECAL, Lausanne) received a Special Mention from the Médiathèques jury.

The international jury was comprised of the following five individuals from the cultural and film sectors: French actress and producer Julie Gayet; film director and screenwriter from Chad, Mahamat-Saleh Haroun; Canadian animation filmmaker, painter and poster designer Theodore Ushev; film director, screenwriter and producer Bent Hammer; and poet, novelist and actress from Cuba, Wendy Guerra. The jury members awarded their Special Prize to the 17-minute film "Einspruch VI," tentatively the last episode in a series of short films entitled "Einspruch," which address the issue of violations of immigrants' human rights.

Over the past six years numerous Swiss film productions have been honoured with awards in Clermont-Ferrand, the world's most important festival for short films: "Wir sind dir treu" by Michael Koch in 2006; "Auf der Strecke" by Reto Caffi as well as "René" by Tobias Nölle in 2008; and last year "Yuri Lennon's Landing On Alpha 46" by Anthony Vouardoux.
