Shooting of new film by Georges Schwizgebel completed
14.03.2006
The internationally known Geneva filmmaker and animator Georges Schwizgebel has completed the 15-day shooting process of his new film «Jeu» (Production: Studio GDS, city of Geneva, and National Film Board of Canada). The film will be 3 minutes and 50 seconds long, and its theme is a variation of musical and visual play – inspired by the scherzo of the 2nd piano concerto by Sergei Prokoffieff.
«Jeu» develops a parallel between the tonal play of piano notes and the visual play of formal structure which develops in twelve, digitally filmed cycles of 1.5 seconds each. At the end of the film, the viewer travels backwards in time, and each cycle reveals the details of a different phase in the play. Apart from the piano solos, which are performed by the 18-year-old son of the director, who already accompanied the film “La jeune fille et les nuages”, the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande (ORS) directed by Philippe Béran interprets the scherzo. Currently, the remaining sound design is being completed, and the final audio mix will take place in Montreal on May 15.
The film’s premiere is scheduled to take place at the Cinemathèque Suisse in Lausanne on June 23, 2006, honoring Georges Schwizgebel. The original paintings used for the film – in acrylic and oil – will be exhibited at the Papiers Gras gallery in Geneva from mid-June until mid-July 2006.
