“Que sera?” wins in Kiev

Dieter Fahrer’s “Que sera?”, which has already won numerous awards, shared the award for the “Best Long Documentary Film” with the Dutch film “Souls of Napels” by Vincent Monnikendam (each was awarded a prize of 1000 dollars) in the international competition at the Ukrainian International Documentary Film Festival. The festival was held for the first time in Kiev from 24 to 29 April 2005. The festival’s Grand Prize (5000 dollars) was awarded to the Israeli film “Watermarks” by Yaron Zilberman (Israel).
The winning of both this award in Kiev as best film and the People’s Choice Award in Montreal in November 2004 attest to the universality of this film, even though it is in dialect. “Que sera” transcends language barriers and is literally “understood” all over the world.
“Que sera?” – which was also the winner of last year’s Suissimage prize / “Société suisse des auteurs” (SSA) at the International Film Festival in Nyon and winner of the “Best of Bern” film prize in 2004 – is the cinematic encounter with people who are spending the twilight of their lives in an old people’s home—ignored by society and struggling to preserve their dignity.
