28.04.2008

With seven Swiss films within the International Competition the 23rd International Documentary Filmfestival in Munich taking place from May 1 - 7, 2008 presents an impressive selection of Swiss documentary filmmaking. In the International Competition “La mère” (The Mother) by Antoine Cattin & Pavel Kostomarov (produced by Les Films Hors-Champ, Lausanne), “Shake the Devil Off” by Peter Entell and “Memory Books”, coproduced by Zurich-based production company Snake Film by German director Christa Graf will be presented. These three Swiss productions are – along with 13 other films – in contention for the Documentary Film Award worth 10´000 Euros, sponsored by the Bavarian Broadcaster Bayrischer Rundfunk and Telepool.
The International Programme presents the portrait-films “Max Frisch, Citoyen”, by Matthias von Gunten (produced by HesseGreutert Film, Zurich) and “Markus Raetz” by Iwan Schumacher as well as the documentary “Vogliamo anche le rose”, by Milan-based Swiss director Alina Marazzi (co-produced by Ventura Film, Meride). This means that three of 34 international films are Swiss productions. In the Horizons section where a price worth 3000 Euros is awarded, with “Salata Baladi” by Nadia Kamel a further co-production of Ticino production company Ventura Film is programmed.

The film festival in Munich mainly focusing upon the artistic documentary is next to other film festivals like Leipzig and Duisburg one of the most important platforms for documentaries in the German-speaking area. The festival observes the Swiss documentary scene since many years with great interest.
