Numerous documentary films shown in Amsterdam

Seven films from Switzerland are taking part in the 18th International Documentary Film Festival (IDFA) in Amsterdam (November 24 – December 4, 2005). The festival is one of the leading events worldwide for nonfiction filmmaking. In the international competition of first time films “First Appearance”, the Canadian-Swiss co-production “Our Own Private Bin Laden” by Samira Goetschel will be shown. Three movies will be screened in the “Reflecting Images” festival section: “Aristide and the Endless Revolution” by New York resident Nicolas Rossier, “Coca – The Dove from Chechnya” by Eric Bergkraut (Production: Doc Productions, Zurich), and “Josh’s Trees” by Peter Entell, winner of the Grand Jury prize at the International Film Festival Montreal.
“Gambit” by Sabine Gisiger (Production: Dschoint Ventschr, Zurich) is part of the “Green Screen” festival section. In addition, co-produced by Dschoint Ventschr is “Massaker” by Monika Borgmann, Lokman Slim, and Hermann Theissen, which will be shown in the “ParaDocs: Lets you and him fight” series. Also presented in that section are the short film “Hotel Diaries: Throwing Stones” by John Smith, a British-Swiss co-production.
The tenth documentary film market “Docs for Sale” takes place simultaneous to the festival, with approximately 20 Swiss productions available.
