Numerous awards for Swiss films at East European festivals

Three documentary films and a short animation film were honoured with awards at four film festivals in Eastern Europe on November 1. The Swiss-German documentary film “Die Frau mit den 5 Elefanten” by Vadim Jendreyko won the DEFA Sponsoring Prize, endowed with EUR 4,000, at the 52nd International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film. Adrian Flückiger’s animation film “Signalis” won the award for Best Student Film, endowed with 2,500 dollars, in a tie with Belgian film at the 39th Molodist International Film Festival in Kiev.
The Swiss-French coproduction “Bassidji” by Iranian director Mehran Tamadon was honoured with the Opus Bonum Award for Best Documentary Film at the Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival, held in the Czech Republic from October 27 to November 1. The documentary film “Glorious Exit” by Kevin Merz was presented the Special Jury Prize at the 10th Astra Film Festival (October 26-November 1) in the Rumanian city of Sibiu.
