Notable Swiss presence at Animation Film Festival in Annecy

Seven Swiss animation films will be screened at the 33rd International Animation Film Festival in Annecy (June 8-13, 2009). Four of these are short films participating in different competition sections: Georges Schwizgebel’s “Retouches” and Isabelle Favez’s latest opus “Valise” will be screened in the international competition for short films; Adrian Flückiger’s “Signalis” will participate in the graduation film competition; and the Swiss-German coproduction “Molly Monster: Molly at the Dentist” by Ted Sieger and Michael Eckblad will participate in the TV series competition.
The seven-minute film “Valise” by the Bernese filmmaker Isabelle Favez will celebrate ist world premiere in Annecy. The film “Retouches”, which has already experienced an impressive festival career, will be screened in Annecy and concomitantly at the prestigious Norwegian Short Film Festival in Grimstad (June 10-15, 2009). Both Isabelle Favez and Georges Schwizgebel will attend the film festival in Annecy to present their films personally.



Complementing the Swiss presence in Annecy will be special screenings of three earlier animation films: both “Amours à faire et à repasser” (1988) by Daniel Suter and “78 tours” (1985) by Georges Schwizgebel will be presented in the “Valse des Tangos” programme. The film “Le petit garçon qui vola la lune” (1988) by Nag Ansorge will be screened in the “La lune fait sa revolution” programme.



The four competition programmes of the film festival in Annecy will feature a total of 192 films from 40 countries this year. A total of 1,855 films were submitted for this year’s festival. The International Animation Film Market (MIFA) will run parallel to the festival from June 10-12.



In celebration of the Swiss presence in Annecy, the film promotion agency SWISS FILMS has organised an aperitif in the Galerie Alter Mundi on Wednesday, June 10. This occasion will also serve as an opportunity to present the new promotion DVD “swiss shorts_17” for the first time.
