Namur showcases films from the Romandie

09.09.2005

At the 20th Festival International du Film Francophone, taking place in Namur (Belgium) from September 23-30, 2005, Swiss filmmaking is strongly represented in all festival categories. In the feature film competition, “One Long Winter Without Fire” by Greg Zglinski is shown (CAB Production, Lausanne), while the documentary film competition screens “Exit” by Fernand Melgar (Production: Climage, Lausanne), and the short film competition includes “Pinetree Scream” by Samuel Vuillermoz and Raphaël Michoud. Nearly a dozen filmmakers from the Romandie, among them Nicolas Wadimoff as a member of the documentary film jury, are participating in the festival. Discussion forums at the event will also include prominent Swiss contributors.
The Swiss-Romanian co-production “Ryna” by Ruxandra Zenide can be viewed in the Panorama section. As part of the 20th-anniversary retrospective of films previously awarded at Namur, “Clandestins” by Denis Chouinard and Nicolas Wadimoff will be shown. Wadimoff also presents the documentary film “L’accord” (The consent) which he co-directed with Béatrice Guelpa. The documentary film “Les hommes du tunnel” (The tunnel men) by Marcel Schüpbach (CAB Production, Lausanne), and “Ageing, Not Greying?” by Marie-Jeanne Urech (Productions Françoise Rapin, Lausanne), along with the short film “Chyenne” by Alexander Meier (Production: Fama Film, Zurich), complete the Swiss participation, reflecting the multiplicity of contemporary Swiss filmmaking both thematically and artistically.

Every year, Namur is bringing together filmmakers, festival delegates, and representatives from various institutions from French-speaking countries. Its goal is to provide a platform to exchange experiences and distribute French-speaking movies internationally. At this year’s 20th anniversary, several panel discussions are taking place with Swiss directors in attendance. At the panel on cultural diversity, Lionel Baier and Denis Rabaglia are among the discussants, Patricia Plattner, Elena Hazanov, and Xavier Ruiz are part of the forum on film production, and Pierre-Alain Meier and Denis Rabaglia will discuss literature on screen.
