Multiple awards for “Stationspiraten” at Filmfest Emden

Michael Schaerer’s feature film for cinema “Stationspiraten” (production: Zodiac Pictures, Lucerne) garnered three monetary awards at the 22nd International Filmfest Emden-Norderney (June 15-22, 2011). The film won the AOK Film Award (EUR 5,000), the EZetera Film Award (EUR 2,500), which went to the film’s leading actor Scherwin Amini, and ranked 3rd by the audience for the Bernhard Wicki Award (EUR 2,000).

The AOK Film Award, endowed with EUR 5,000, was presented for the first time at this year's festival. It is awarded to the director of a film screened in competition which creatively addresses the theme of health. This year's winner was the film "Stationspiraten," portraying five teenagers whose lives intersect in a hospital because they are diagnosed with cancer. The EZetera Film Award for Best Film was presented by a youth jury. Monetary awards amounting to more than EUR 53,000 were presented at this year at the festival in the East Frisian city. Five Swiss film productions and coproductions participated in competition, one of which was the short film "Le miroir" by Ramon & Pedro. This film was also screened at the 14th Shanghai International Film Festival (June 11-19, 2011) and won the Best Creative Idea Award, amounting to 1,500 dollars.
