Coproductions from all parts of Switzerland – by Vega Film, Oko Productions, Ventura Film, Rita Productions – and Swiss artist films will be screened at the Toronto International Film Festival. Switzerland and the many facets of its filmmaking are thus well represented at the most important film festival in North America.

Thomas Imbach will present his most recent work “Mary, Queen Of Scots” at the 38th Toronto International Film Festival (September 5-15, 2013). The film, a coproduction with France, celebrated its world premiere in the International Competition at the Festival in Locarno and has since entered into a world sales contract with Picture Tree. Another French-Swiss coproduction, this time with Vega Film in Zurich, will celebrate its world premiere in Toronto, together with the fiction film “L'amour est le crime parfait” by the French brothers Arnaud and Jean-Marie Larrieu.

From Venice to Toronto
Immediately following the film festival in Venice, two dramas will also travel to Toronto: “L’Armée du Salut” (director: D’Abdellah Taïa), a French-Swiss coproduction with Rita Productions in Geneva; and “Die Frau des Polizisten” (director: Philip Gröning) – a German-Swiss coproduction with Ventura Film, Ticino.

Artist films by Schüpbach, Beavers, Straub
Together with the four feature-length fiction films, the festival has invited four Swiss artist films, three of which will celebrate their world premieres – “Instants”; “Homme en mouvement, 2012”; and “Listening To The Space In My Room” – as well as “Un conte de Michel de Montaigne.” Hannes Schüpbach will present his 16-minute film “Instants” personally at the festival. The young filmmakers Christophe M. Saber, Max Idje and Ruben Glauser will also attend the festival: their three-minute “Homme en mouvement, 2012” was produced at the ECAL in Lausanne together with Hannes Schüpbach. Rounding off the Swiss presence in Toronto is the short film “Listening To The Space In My Room” by Robert Beavers, a Swiss-German-American coproduction shot in Switzerland; and the 35-minute film “Un conte de Michel de Montaigne” by Jean-Marie Straub, which was already screened in Locarno.
