Jonas Meier’s “Mürners Universum” (Mürners Universe) will be screened at the 28th Torino Film Festival (November 26 to December 4, 2010). The film is in the running with ten other works for the CULT™ Award – True Stories in Cinema, endowed with EUR 20,000. The film festival in Turin focuses primarily on discovering innovative talent as well as documentary and experimental filmmaking and is, after Venice, the most important film festival in Italy.
The feature-length film "Mürners Universum" (Mürners Universe), which appears to be a documentary film about a rather odd elderly man, emerges as a complex work. The director adeptly plays with the uncertainty as to what is documentary, what is played, and could thus has the makings of a 'cult' film. Two Swiss short documentary films will also be screened in the "italiana.corti" competition: Matteo Gariglio's "Harlekin" (Harlequin) and Michele Pennetta's "I cani abbaiano" (The Dogs Bark).
Also screened at the festival in Torino is Michelangelo Frammartino's highly acclaimed, multi-award-winning feature film "Le quattro volte," an Italian-Swiss coproduction by Ventura Film in Ticino.
