Locarno 2020: The Films After Tomorrow – new collaboration with SWISS FILMS
For the Future of Films is launching The Films After Tomorrow, the first of a series of initiatives created for this highly unusual year in which the physical event of the Locarno Film Festival has been canceled. The first Locarno 2020 project is dedicated to supporting independent filmmaking.
15.05.2020
The Films After Tomorrow will feature a competition of 10 international and 10 Swiss productions on which work has been halted because of the global pandemic. The directors of the 20 films selected will be presented to the public online from August 5 to 15.
The Artistic Director of the Locarno Film Festival and her team will be responsible for making the final selection of 10 international projects and 10 Swiss projects. These will be announced on June 25, before being presented to the two international juries for The Films After Tomorrow. The section of the competition dedicated to Swiss productions will be organized and promoted in collaboration with SWISS FILMS.
Call for Projects
To qualify for the competition, films must be full-length features (planned length of at least 70 min.) intended for theatrical distribution which have been put on hold by the Corona crisis, either just before the start of shooting, or during shooting or postproduction.
Projects can be submitted until May 27, 2020, using the online application form here: http://www.locarnofestival.ch/TheFilmsAfterTomorrow
In parallel, two international juries chosen by the Artistic Director and her programming committee will assess the 20 entries and will confer several prizes on Saturday, August 15, including two Pardo 2020 awards of 70,000 Swiss francs each.
