Let Swiss Cinema Animate You! - Swiss Cinema Day 2007
11.07.2007
The Locarno International Film Festival and the Swiss Federal Office of Culture will be presenting the second edition of the Swiss Cinema Day, organised by SWISS FILMS, on Tuesday 7 August 2007. In addition to film screenings on Locarno’s Piazza Grande, films in various sections and the launch of the DVD Le Cinéma suisse de demain (volume 2) there will be events with the participation of actors, actresses, animation artists and film historians drawing attention to Switzerland’s highly active, multi-faceted film scene under the motto “Let Swiss cinema animate you!”. Kathrin Rebsamen of SWISS FILMS, the promotion agency responsible for planning and organizing the day, explains that Swiss Film Day will offer snapshots and highlights of the strong Swiss film scene being celebrated this year.
“Animated Switzerland”
The Swiss animated cartoon scene has developed rapidly over the past few years with increasing success on an international level. Nevertheless, many of Switzerland’s artists remain unknown to the wider public. At Swiss Cinema Day 2007, animated film productions will be present throughout the day with a studio exhibition. Young and old will have a chance to watch over the shoulders of a large selection of Swiss animation artists, gaining revealing insight into the magic of animation technology.
Actors and actresses: the face of a film
Actors and actresses give films a face: They move us and leave lasting impressions on us; Some become stars, while others quickly fall into oblivion. A better positioning of drama talents in the public eye represents a great potential for the Swiss film industry. Swiss and European experts from the casting and acting scene develop their visions, which are presented to the public as stimuli.
The Locarno International Film Festival celebrates 60 years—The history of Swiss cinema
The private view of the second volume of Hervé Dumont and Maria Tortajada’s history of Swiss cinema, Histoire du Cinéma Suisse 1966-2000, will be accompanied by a panel. Guests of moderator Nicolas Bideau will include major protagonists of the extensive chronicle of around 1800 pages as well as the authors of the work.
DVD: LE CINÉMA SUISSE DE DEMAIN, VOLUME 2
The talent-highlighting DVD Le Cinéma suisse de demain, volume 2 presented on Swiss Film Day is a special edition of the “Swiss shorts” produced this year by SWISS FILMS for a selection of international festivals, television stations, distributors and other international disseminators. SWISS FILMS has produced this promotional DVD featuring the latest Swiss short films twice a year since 2005: The DVD has become a reference for the international promotion of Swiss talents.
