Large presence of Swiss documentary films in Amsterdam

Seven films made in Switzerland will be shown at the International Documentary Film Festival in Amsterdam, November 20-30, 2003. Peter Liechti will present “Lucky Jack –Three Attempts to Stop Smoking” in the International Competition (Joris Ivens Competition), while “Le Poison – Le Crime de Maracon” by Stéphane Goël (CAB Productions, Lausanne) will be shown in the Silver Wolf Competition. The video production “The Bridge of Mitrovica” by Christian Labhart will be seen in the “First Appearance” Competition. Furthermore, Swiss director Peter Mettler will be a member of the international jury.
Three of the seven films are to be screened in the festival section “Reflecting Images”: “Skinhead Attitude” by Daniel Schweizer and “Tarifa Traffic” by Joakim Demmer which both premiered in Locarno and were produced by Zurich firm Dschoint Ventschr, and also featured in this section will be “Gambling, Gods, and LSD” (Production: maximage, Zurich) by Swiss-Canadian Peter Mettler which has already won several awards during the past year. “Brothers and Others” by Nicolas Rossier (a Swiss filmmaker living in New York City) is to be presented in the USA Today program of the festival. These two films round out the strong presence of Swiss documentary filmmaking in Amsterdam.
