Italian-Swiss film meeting in Stresa

From June 13 – 17, 2007, the 2nd edition of the “Incontri cinematografici italo-svizzeri” will be taking place in the North Italian city of Stresa. At the event, films from Italy and Switzerland will be shown and filmmakers from both countries will have a chance to network and interact. In addition, a retrospective will be dedicated to the Zurich production company Dschoint Ventschr. Open air screenings on the shores of the Lago Maggiore will include, among others, the feature film and winner of the 1998 Swiss Film Prize “Waalo Fendo – Là où la terre gèle” by Mohammed Soudani, and “Fraulein” by Andrea Staka, which won the Golden Leopard award at the 2006 Locarno International Film Festival. SWISS FILMS is a sponsor of this event, which was originally initiated by young Italian film enthusiasts.
As a testimony to the strong engagement and high quality of the 20-year-old Zurich company Dschoint Ventschr, which has served as a springboard for many talented filmmakers, several short, long, and documentary films that have previously been awarded the Swiss Film Prize will be shown at Stresa. The following works will be shown as part of the retrospective: short films “Pastry, Pain and Politics” by Stina Werenfels (1998), “Babami Hirsizlar Caldi/The Stolen Father” by Esen Isik (1999), “Summertime” by Anna Luif (2000), feature films “Miel et Cendres/Honey & Ashes” by Nadia Fares (1996), “Nachbeben/Going Private” by Stina Werenfels (2006), and the documentary film “Gambit” by Sabine Gisiger (2005). Dschoint Ventschr co-founder, producer, and director Samir will be in attendance and represent the company’s impressive record. He will also introduce one of his own productions, the short film “La eta knabino” (1997) which was shot in Esperanto. The feature films “Marmorera” by Markus Fischer and “Il Pugno di Gesù/Boxing Jesus” by Stefan Jäger, which both celebrated their premiere at the Solothurn Film Festival, will be also shown, with the directors in attendance. From the Western part of Switzerland, organizers selected “La vraie vie est ailleurs/Real Life is Elsewhere” by Frédéric Choffat to also be part of the program.
