Eric Bergkraut’s documentary film “Letter to Anna” won the “Merit Prize” at the 6th Taiwan International Documentary Film Festival (October 31-November 9, 2008); the prize amounts to 6,000 dollars. The 30-minute short film “On The Line” by Reto Caffi garnered yet another award, this time at the 24th Interfilm International Short Film Festival in Berlin (November 4-9). This award for the German Competition comprises postproduction support, valued to 13,000 euros. Rolando Colla’s television film “Marameo” (Peacock Film, Zurich) was honoured with the Young Jury Award for the Best TV Movie at the 6th Zoom European TV Movies Festival in Igualada (November 5-9). Elena Pedrazzoli, the producer of the film, attended the festival in Catalonia to receive the award.
The international jury of the festival in Taiwan, which is held every two years, stated ist decision for presenting the “Merit Award” (one of the most important awards in the competition) to “Letter to Anna” as follows: “An emotional and convincing journalistic documentation, which is an excellent example of depicting the factious power of the state against human rights and independent journalism with deadly consequences for the latter, thereby also endangering the lives of those involved in making this film.” The documentary film, which is dedicated to Anna Politkovskaja who was murdered in October 2006, was honoured with the Vaclav Havel Award in Prague last March.
