International Audiovisual Market MIA

«Swiss Series» in Rome

18.09.2024

At the tenth anniversary edition of the Mercato Internazionale Audiovisivo MIA in Rome (14-18 October), no fewer than two Swiss series will be in the spotlight.

Swiss series have found their place at major series markets such as the Berlinale Series Market, Series Mania in Lille and the MIA in Rome. In order to raise their international profile, SWISS FILMS, in collaboration with SRG SSR, will be presenting Swiss series projects at these markets.

WINTER PALACE by Swiss director Pierre Monnard and the MIA are already a success story: in 2020, the Franco-Swiss coproduction was selected for the “Drama Co-Production Market & Pitching Forum”, and this year it has been invited to the prestigious GREENLit showcase as one of six high-end series. The showcase will take place on 18 October. Following this event, SWISS FILMS, in partnership with Ticino Film Commission, Valais Film Commission, RSI and SRG SSR invite the Swiss delegation to a get-together with international industry guests.

WINTER PALACE is the first co-production between Netflix and Radio Télévision Suisse Romande (RTS). Geneva-based production company Point Prod ((Jean-Marc Fröhle, David Rihs) and Paris-based studio Oble produced the eight-episode series for RTS and Netflix. Cyril Metzger, best known for his role in Frédéric Mermoud's LA VOIE ROYALE, plays André Morel, an ambitious hotelier. With his vision of running a five-star hotel that stays open during the winter season, he paves the way for luxury hotels in the Alps. The series will be broadcast exclusively on RTS and Play Suisse before being made available to Netflix subscribers worldwide.

At the “Drama Co-Production Market & Pitching Forum 2024”, the new series DOLCE AMELIA by Petra Volpe and Rebecca Martin will be presented as a work-in-progress. The series, produced by Swiss company Zodiac Pictures (Jessica Hefti, Reto Schaerli) in coproduction with SRF, won over the jury, who chose it as one of the 15 selected projects. The jury also includes Claudia Bluemhuber, founder and CEO of Silver Reel, a Swiss-based film financing and production company.

The story of DOLCE AMELIA looks at Amelia, born in 1908, and her dream of becoming a chocolatier. A story of love and family spanning five decades in the sensual world of chocolate. DOLCE AMELIA will be pitched on 16 October at the Forum.
