“Hiver nomade” in the running for the European Film Award 2012

The Swiss film “Hiver Nomade” by Manuel von Stürler is one of the three documentary films nominated for the European Film Award 2012, as announced by the European Film Academy today.

The Swiss film “Hiver Nomade” by Manuel von Stürler is one of the three documentary films nominated for the European Film Award 2012, as announced by the European Film Academy today. The English film “London: The Modern Babylon” by Julien Temple and the Belgian film “Le Thé ou l' Electricité” by Jérôme Le Maire were also nominated.

“Hiver Nomade” has been nominated for the European Film Academy Documentary 2012 – Prix Arte. In his cinema film debut, musician and poet Manuel von Stürler from Vaud accompanies two shepherds on their winter journey with a thousand sheep through French-speaking Switzerland. The film, produced by Louise Production in Lausanne, began its impressive festival career this year at the Berlinale (International Forum) and has since been screened on four continents. It was honoured with the Grand Prix SSA/Suissimage at the Festival Visions du Réel in Nyon and recently with the Audience Award and the award for Best Cinematography at the Festival du Film Francophone in Namur, Belgium.

Second winner of the European Documentary Film Award?
Apart from “Hiver Nomade,” the six-member committee comprised of film experts from the European Film Academy also selected English film “London: The Modern Babylon” by Julien Temple and the Belgian film “Le Thé ou l' Electricité” by Jérôme Le Maire. “Hiver Nomade” is the fifth Swiss film to be nominated. The 2,600 members of the academy will now select the winning film. The award ceremony will take place in Malta on December 1, 2012. In  2009, Peter Liechti was the first Swiss cineaste to win this prestigious award with “The Sound of Insects.”
