Great honour for Swiss filmmaking in South of France

17.02.2010

The broad spectrum of Swiss filmmaking will be celebrated in France with nearly 60 films: the 48th “Rencontre cinématographique de Pézenas” will showcase Swiss film productions from yesterday and today (February 19-25, 2010); and the 3rd Swiss Film Week will be held in Montpellier (February 25 - March 1). Last December Swiss film productions were honoured in Belfort. This means that Swiss filmmaking has been placed in the limelight in France during the past three months. In collaboration with its partners in France, SWISS FILMS, the film promotion agency, has organised and provided support for the programmes of both film weeks.
Jean-Stéphane Bron will open the “Rencontre” in Pézenas personally with his film “Mon frère se marie”, with the leading actor Jean-Luc Bideau, from Geneva, also in attendance. In addition, Jean-Luc Bideau will present films by Claude Goretta, Alain Tanner, Simon Edelstein and Michel Soutter.

Swiss classics – for example, “Ueli der Knecht” by Franz Schnyder; “Romeo und Julia auf dem Dorfe” by Hans Trommer and Valerian Schmidely; and “Die missbrauchten Liebesbriefe” by Leopold Lindtberg – will be screened in Pézenas, as well as films by the younger generation, including Jean-Stéphane Bron, Ursula Meier and Lionel Baier.

The documentary film genre is well represented with films by Richard Dindo and Jacqueline Veuve. The latter, the “Grande Dame du Documentaire Suisse”, will attend the film week personally to present six of her works in conjunction with a programme showcasing her works.

The week in Montpellier starts with the classic “Les petites fugues” by Yves Yersin. A total of six films will be screened, including the two successful films “Tout un hiver sans feu” by Greg Zglinski (Swiss Film Prize 2004), with Aurélien Recoing attendance, as well as “Grounding” by Michael Steiner and Tobias Fueter, with Gilles Tschudi in attendance.
