Golden Angel for “Home” at Tofifest in Torun (Poland)
04.07.2009
Ursula Meier was honoured with the Golden Angel at the 7th Tofifest International Film Festival in Torun yesterday for her fiction film “Home”. The award is the festival’s Grand Prix, endowed with 5'000 euros. “Home” was in the running with eight other fiction films for the award in the international competition. The Slovenian film director Jan Cvitkovic presided over the jury of this relatively young Polish festival, which featured Switzerland in a special programme this year.
This award is yet another in the successful festival career of “Home”, which was launched one year ago with the selection of the film in the Critics’ Week in Cannes. The French-Belgian-Swiss coproduction, winner of three QUARTZ awards of the Swiss Film Prize 2009, was presented three further awards during the past two weeks, one of which was the Audience Award at the 17th Barcelona International Women’s Film Festival (June 11-21, 2009). Moritz de Hadeln, jury president of the 15th International Auteur Cinema Film Festival in Rabat (June 20-30, 2009), presented Ursula Meier and her co-screenwriter Antoine Jaccoud with the award for Best Script. And on June 15 in Paris, Ursula Meier received the Prix Nouveau Talent Cinéma, which is presented by the French Society of Dramatic Authors (SACD) in various art disciplines. At present, “Home” has already garnered approximately 20 awards.
The film’s career in international cinemas is also rapidly climbing: “Home” was released in cinemas in Germany on June 25 (distributor: Arsenal) and sold 12,000 tickets in the first week after its release. The headline in FAZ was enthusiastic: “Film sensation from Switzerland: Ursula Meier’s HOME”. The film was released in Portugal on July 2 (Atalanta Filmes). It will start in Great Britain on August 7 (Soda Pictures), and on September 11 in Spain (Piramide Films).
