Georges Schwizgebel wins Silver Dove in Leipzig

At the 49th International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film, which ended on November 5, 2006, the Swiss animated film “Jeu/Play” by Georges Schwizgebel (Studio GDS, Geneva) won the Silver Dove ex aequo with the French-Canadian film “Conte de quartier” by Florence Miailhe. The award comes with a prize sum of 2,000 Euro. After its premiere on the Piazza Grande in Locarno in August, “Jeu/Play” won the prize of the international jury at the festival in Hiroshima and one of the main prizes at the Ottawa film festival, two events with special importance for animated film.
The international jury for animated film at the Leipzig festival stated in its justification: “Jeu/Play” tells us about play and command. What is the difference between a sports event and a concert, between Prokofiev and Madonna, between black and white and color, and between stability and fluctuating space? Only Schwizgebel answers these questions in an original way.
