27.03.2007
At the 31st Hong Kong International Film Festival, taking place from March 27 to April 11, 2007, the two internationally successful Swiss films “Fraulein” by Andrea Staka (Production: Dschoint Ventschr) and “Carla’s List” will presented. The documentary film by Marcel Schüpbach (CAB Productions, Lausanne) about Carla Del Ponte, chief prosecutor at the International Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia, will be shown as part of the Humanitarian Award for Documentaries competition.
Both films celebrated their premiere at the Locarno International Film Festival in 2006: The first-time feature film “Fraulein” won the Golden Leopard and later took home the main award at the Sarajevo Film Festival. It was also part of the program at several international film festivals, among them Pusan (South Korea) and Sundance Film Festival in Park City (USA). “Fraulein” had a success movie theatre run in Switzerland, with over 65,000 tickets sold (Distribution: Look Now!), and is currently shown in Germany (Distribution: Real Fiction). In the spring of 2007, the film will be released in movie theatres in Bosnia, Croatia, Serbia, and Slowenia (Distribution: Blitz Film), Austria (Polyfilm), Greece (Rosebud), and Spain (Sherlock).
After its premiere at Locarno on the Piazza Grande, “Carla’s List” was shown at the International Documentary Film Festival in Amsterdam (IDFA), as well as at festivals in Mexico (FICCO) and in Warsaw (Watch Docs). At the end of March 2007, it will participate at the Human Rights Film Festival in London, and it will screen in New York City in June. “Carla’s List” has been sold for theatrical distribution in France (Distribution: Pierre Grise Distribution), Italy (Ripley’s Film), Spain (Aquelarre), Belgium, Holland, and Luxembourg (Cinema Delicatessen), as well as Former Yugoslavia (Continental Film). Televised broadcasts are in the planning for Finland, Poland, Chzech Republic, and the Middle East (Al Jazeera Documentary).
The Hong Kong International Festival counts among the most important film events in Asia. With their successful distribution record in Europe, both films are in a good position for additional distribution sales in the Asian region.
