Four Swiss short films in Palm Springs

23.08.2006

At the Palm Springs International Festival of Short Films, taking place for the 12th time in California (USA) from August 24-30, 2006, the two animated films “Le génie de la boîte de raviolis/The genie in a ravioli tin” and “Banquise”, both by Claude Barras (the latter co-directed by Cédric Louis), and the two feature films “Hunde/Dogs” by Matthias Huser, and “La clé des champs” by Floriane Closuit will be part of the competition.
The Palm Springs ShortFest presents selected short films within various thematic programs. This year, 48 programs are listed: “Hunde” and “La clé des champs” are part of the “On the Road” program; notably, “Le génie de la boîte de raviolis/The genie in a ravioli tin” is scheduled to screen in the “Table Manners” program, while “Banquise” will be shown in the context of “Body Language”. With their presence in Palm Springs, both animated films along with “Hunde/Dogs” are continuing their remarkable festival tours (Cannes, among others). For “La clé des champs”, this is the first international festival appearance.

Internationally, the festival is one of the most important showcases for short film in North America. It features a well-frequented film market, and films awarded at Palm Springs automatically can be nominated for the Academy Awards. Palm Springs ShortFest is regarded the “small brother” of the famous Palm Springs International Film Festival for long feature films, taking place annually in January.
