The artist portrait “Tinguely” by Thomas Thümena will be screened in competition at the 30th International Festival of Films on Art (FIFA) in Montreal (March 15-25, 2012). It is in the running for the Grand Prix, together with 40 Films from 17 countries. A portrait of conductor Muhai Tang, a film from and with photographer René Burri and Marco D’Anna, and an architecture film round off the Swiss presence in Montreal.

Photographer Marco D’Anna will present the 19-minute film “Projet corrida” personally in Montreal. In the film, he and René Burri each portray their individual perspective of bullfighting.

The 60-minute film “Muhai Tang – Ocean of Music” by Markus Unterfinger portrays the Chinese conductor Muhai Tang while working as the principal conductor of the famous Zurich Chamber Orchestra and his commitment to the nascent Shanghai Philharmonic. Herbert von Karajan was one of the musician’s supporters.

In “Le paysage intérieur,” Pierre Maillard accompanies a young architect from Japan who lives in Lausanne as she reflects on the construction of a Learning Center of ETH Lausanne.

The International Festival of Film on Art is one of the world’s largest festivals devoted entirely to art – art of the most varied disciplines: architecture, theatre, dance, art history, painting, sculpture, music and photography. A total of 232 films from 27 countries will be screened this year at the FIFA in Montreal.
