10.06.2009

Five Swiss films will be screened at the 12th Shanghai International Film Festival (June 13-21, 2009), which ranks as the most important international film festival in China. Denis Rabaglia’s film “Marcello Marcello” will open Focus Switzerland on June 16.
Apart from “Marcello Marcello”, further fiction films presented in Focus Switzerland include: “Home” by Ursula Meier; “Reise der Hoffnung” by Xavier Koller (Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film 1991); “Tag am Meer” by Moritz Gerber; and “Tandoori Love” by Oliver Paulus. Denis Rabaglia, Moritz Gerber, Oliver Paulus and Xavier Koller will attend the festival to present their films personally. In addition, Xavier Koller is one of the seven members of the jury for the international competition, presided over by Danny Boyle.

Screening the works at the film festival in Shanghai was initiated by SWISS FILMS. The project is part of the “Swiss Chinese Cultural Explorations” cultural programme, whereby SWISS FILMS and Pro Helvetia promote cooperation and exchange between Switzerland and China through selected projects. One year ago the film “Der Freund” by Micha Lewinsky was screened in the competition of the festival, which also focused on “Swiss Female Filmmakers” and featured films by Ursula Meier, Bettina Oberli, Andrea Staka and Jeanne Waltz.

The Shanghai International Film Festival is recognised by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF) as one of the twelve top-ranking film festivals. It is regarded among experts in the film industry as one of the most important platforms for the distribution of films in China in the future.
