04.06.2009
Five Swiss films are among the 114 works to be screened in the official competition of the 12th Brooklyn International Film Festival in New York (June 5-14, 2009). The five films include two documentary films – Fanny Bräuning’s “No More Smoke Signals” and Berni Goldblat’s “Ceux de la colline” – and two documentary short films – “Cartographie 9 – La Boule d'Or” by Bruno Deville and “La marche de Reena” by Fiorella Castanotto – as well as Eileen Hofer’s fiction short film “Racines”.
The four documentary films – regardless of their length – will all compete in the “Documentary” category. “Racines” will compete in the “Short” category, which is reserved for the short film genre. The film “No More Smoke Signals”, winner of the Swiss Film Prize 2009 and numerous other awards – will also be screened in New York at the National Museum of the American Indian on June 18 and 20, with the director in attendance.
The Brooklyn International Film Festival will present winners with prizes totalling over $60,000 this year. The festival is a platform for discovering and promoting independent filmmaking, featuring all formats and genres ranging from fiction, documentary and animation to experimental films. Submitted for this year’s festival were 2,770 films from 11 countries, 51 of which were from Switzerland.
