Enormous interest in Swiss films in the Ukraine
Five feature-length and two short film productions from Switzerland will be screened at the Molodist Kyiv International Film Festival – the most important in the Ukraine.

Apart from the two successful film productions “Sister” by Ursula Meier and the coproduction “À perdre la raison” by Belgian director Joachim Lafosse (coproduction: Box Productions, Lausanne), the fiction films “Eine wen iig, dr Dällebach Kari” by Xavier Koller and “Hard Stop” by Sascha Weibel will be screened at the 42nd Molodist Kyiv International Film Festival (October 20-28, 2012). The short documentary film “Grossvater hat das Meer nie gesehen” by Christine Hürzeler has been invited to the Short Film Competition; the documentary short film “5x5x5 – Which Direction To Go?” by Dirbdil Assefa Akirso is also in the festival’s official programme. Sascha Weibel and Christine Hürzeler will present their films personally at the festival in the Kiev.
Special event with concert by Alena Cherny
Christian Labhart’s documentary film “Appassionata” (Audience Award, Zurich Film Festival 2012) dedicated to the Ukrainian pianist Alena Cherny, who has lived in Switzerland for 15 years, will be featured in a special event. The film’s protagonist will give a concert, accompanied by a symphony orchestra. Christian Labhart will also be present.
30 films in a “Swiss Short Film Night”
The festival has organised, in collaboration with SWISS FILMS, the promotion agency, a “Swiss Short Film Night” highlighting 30 current works from all genres: fiction, animation and documentary film productions. Three young cineastes will attend the short film night: director Marina Rosset, from Canton Vaud, with her animation film “La main de l’ours” (2008); the Bernese director Maria Sigrist with her fiction film “Goodbye Boyfriend” (2011); and the filmmaker Rinaldo Marasco, from Canton Valais, with his brand new short fiction film “Saloperie de pruneaux.”
