Deutscher Filmpreis 2009: three nominations for “Nordwand”

The fiction film “Nordwand” by Philipp Stölzl (Swiss coproducer: Triluna Film, Zurich) has received three nominations for a LOLA 2009, the Deutscher Filmpreis (German Film Award). Kolja Brandt is one of the three nominees in the category of “Best Cinematography”; Udo Kramer has been nominated for “Best Production Design”; and Tschangis Chahrokh, Heinz Ebner and Guido Zettier are in the running for a LOLA in the category of “Best Sound Design”.
“Nordwand”, which is largely set in the Bernese Oberland, celebrated its premiere on the Piazza Grande in Locarno in August 2008. The film portrays the legendary but fatal first attempt to climb the North Face of the Eiger at the end of the 1930s by two teams of mountaineers from fascist Germany and Austria. The film garnered more than 72,000 admissions in Swiss cinemas and ranked as the most successful Swiss fiction film in 2008.
The Deutscher Filmpreis, the most prestigious and most highly endowed award for German film, will be awarded on April 24, 2009.
