“Der Freund”: Best First Feature Film at festival in San Jose (USA)

“Der Freund”, Micha Lewinsky’s first fiction film (production: Langfilm, Freienstein), was honoured with “Best First Feature Award” at the 19th Cinequest Film Festival in San Jose, California (February 25-March 8, 2009). The film was selected to participate in the Maverick Competition.
The Cinequest Festival in San Jose attracts approximately 80,000 visitors every year. The theme of this year’s festival was “Transform”. About 150 films from 34 countries were screened in the programme.
The film “Der Freund”, which won two Quartz awards of the Swiss Film Prize 2008, continues its international festival career which began one year ago. Philippe Graber stars as the protagonist of the film. He’s a shy, young man whose life becomes exceedingly complicated when Larissa, a young singer (alias Sophie Hunger, played by Emilie Welti) dies unexpectedly and he is mistaken for her former boyfriend.
Micha Lewsinsky’s second feature fiction film “Die Standesbeamtin” will be released in Swiss cinemas on March 19.
