22.09.2008
The award-winner of the Swiss Film Prize 2008 in the categories Best Film and Best Emerging Actor or Actress, “Der Freund” by Micha Lewinsky, has been nominated by Switzerland for the category of “Best Foreign Language Film” at the Academy Awards.
The choice made by the Federal Office for Culture is the result of the film’s success at the box office (30,000 viewers in Switzerland), amongst critics and at the numerous international festivals it has participated in. “Der Freund” tells the unique love story between Emil (Philippe Graber) and Larissa (Emilie Welti), who dies shortly after their first encounter. He manages to be accepted by the deceased family as her “widower” and soon falls in love with Larissa’s sister (Johanna Bantzer).
The first film made by the German Swiss – born in Kassel in 1972 – is a production by Langfilm, whose production "Höhenfeuer" by Fredi M. Murer already made it to Hollywood. Micha Lewinsky – who made a name for himself as the screenplay writer of the film “Sternenberg” by Christoph Schraub – is currently recording his second full-length film for television entitled “Die Standesbeamtin”.
