Daniel Schmid honored in Spain

With a series of fourteen films, the Filmoteca Española in Madrid (February 6 – March 8, 2007), and the Filmoteca de Catalunya in Barcelona (February 26 – March 15, 2007) are honoring Swiss director Daniel Schmid, who died last year on August 6, 2006. This homage follows similar events on different continents, such as in Japan and Canada, and is an expression of the international appreciation of Daniel Schmid’s work. SWISS FILMS supports the retrospectives in Madrid and Barcelona.
The homage to Daniel Schmid encompasses films from all of period’s of his work, including ””Thut alles im Finstern eurem Herrn das Licht zu ersparen” (1971), “Tonight or Never” (1972), “La Paloma” (1974), “Shadow of Angels” (1976), “Violanta” (1977), “Notre dame de la croisette” (1981), “Hécate” (1982), “Imitation of Life” (1983), ”Tosca’s Kiss” (1984), “Jenatsch” (1987), “Les amateurs 1912–1931” (1991), “Off Season” (1992), “The Written Face” (1995), and “Beresina” (1999).
The recognition that Daniel Schmid’s work received in Southern Europe, Canada, and Japan during his lifetime, finds its continuation in these retrospectives.
