Swiss films at the world's most important short film festival

A total of seven films from Switzerland will be screened at the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival (February 2–10, 2024), five of them in competitive sections. SWISS FILMS is representing Swiss short film production with a stand at the Clermont-Ferrand film market and has published an extensive line-up of new Swiss short films for the occasion.

2720 by Swiss-Portuguese director Basil Da Cunha has been selected for the International Competition. With a moving camera choreography and the participation of the residents, Basil da Cunha shows the poverty-stricken Reboleira district in Lisbon. The film premiered at Visions du Réel 2023 and has already won several awards.

The animated film MATTA AND MATTO by Bianca Caderas and Kerstin Zemp will also screen in the International Competition. The film about a dystopian world in which touching is forbidden recently screened at the renowned Sundance Film Festival.

The experimental documentary SCHLAFSAND by Elias Bötticher is part of the Lab Competition. The film was made at the ZHdK Zurich University of the Arts and celebrated its world premiere at the IFFR in Rotterdam in January. The filmmakers Bianca Caderas, Kerstin Zemp and Elias Bötticher are traveling to Clermont-Ferrand with the support of SWISS FILMS to present their films in person.

Two animated films will screen in the Jeune Public competition: the festival success POND by Lena von Döhren and Eva Rust premiered at the Berlinale 2023; LA BOULANGERIE DE BORIS by Maša Avramović is a French-Swiss-Croation coproduction with the Geneva-based animation studio Nadasdy Film.

In the programme EUR♀VISIONS - European Women with a Movie Camera, Corina Schwingruber Ilić will be showing her award-winning 2018 festival favourite ALL INCLUSIVE, which is also part of the festival's opening ceremony. Kantarama Gahigiri’s highly acclaimed Afrofuturistic short film TERRA MATER screens in the African Perspectives programme shortly after screening at Sundance Film Festival,.

A Rendezvous for the Short Film Industry

SWISS FILMS will be representing Swiss short filmmaking with a stand at the Clermont-Ferrand Film Market (February 5 - 8, 2024), the leading international event for the short film industry. Swiss director Lasse Linder (ALL CATS ARE GREY IN THE DARK) will be pitching his latest project AIR HORSE ONE at the European Short Film Co-Production Forum.

The latest short films from Switzerland can be discovered in the new Line-up SHORTS 2024. In collaboration with film curator Annina Wettstein, SWISS FILMS has put together a selection of 30 short films, half of which are by female directors. The line-up comprises fifteen fictional short films, eight documentaries, five animated films and two experimental films. 16 short films come from German-speaking Switzerland, 14 from French-speaking Switzerland. The Swiss film schools HEAD, ZHdK, ECAL and HSLU are represented with a total of 10 productions. SWISS FILMS will publish a second Line-up SHORTS 2024 in mid-2024.
