01.02.2010

Swiss director Christian Frei received the “World Cinema Directing Award” at the 26th Sundance Film Festival in Park City (21 to 31 January 2010) for his film “Space Tourists”. He was in international competition with 12 other documentary films. The Sundance Film Festival, founded by actor and director Robert Redford, is regarded as the most important film festival in the USA for independent film making.
In his complex film “Space Tourists”, Christian Frei investigates what still remains of the great dream of the 20th century – space travel - that blossomed during the era of the Soviet Union. The film that had already been shown at a competition of the International Documentary Film Festival in Amsterdam (IDFA) in December, convinced the American film press. Last week, the professional publication “The Hollywood Reporter” bore the headline “Film maker Christian Frei launches a down-to-earth glimpse into the race for space” and its highly positive review also underlined the outstanding performance of cameraman Peter Indergand as well as of cutters Christian Frei and Andreas Winterstein.
