Celebration of Swiss short films at film festival in Brest
06.11.2009
Eight Swiss short film productions will be screened at the 24th Brest European Short Film Festival (November 7-15, 2009). The short fiction film “Zahn um Zahn” by Ivana Lalovic will celebrate its world premiere in the “Cocotte Minute” competition, devoted entirely to experimental and short fiction films (under 6 minutes). Another short fiction film and six Swiss animation films will be presented in numerous festival sections.
The film “A côté” by Basil da Cunha, who graduated from HEAD (Geneva University of Art and Design), will be screened in the “Brest Off” panorama programme. The film celebrated its premiere at this year’s film festival in Locarno. Two animation films – “Chrigi” by Anja Kofmel and “Retouches” by Georges Schwizgebel – will be presented in the panorama of animation films. Two films completed at Lucerne School of Art and Design – “La main de l'ours” by Marina Rosset and “Die Kinder im Mond” by Ursula Ulmi – will be screened in the children’s section. Screened in the festival’s concluding programme are two animation film coproductions (Nadasdy Film, Geneva): “Le petit dragon” by Bruno Collet and “Allons-y! Alonzo!” by Camille Moulin-Dupré. Adrian Blaser, producer of the film “Zahn um Zahn”, will attend the festival thanks to the support from SWISS FILMS.
The festival in the Brittany ranks as the second most important short film festival in France after Clermont-Ferrand, attracting 45,500 visitors in 2008. With 200 films in the programme, the festival aims to discover new talented directors in the fiction film genre. In addition, the film market which runs parallel to the festival enables film professionals to discover some 1,400 short films.
