At the 5th edition of the Infinity Film Festival, which took place in Alba (Piemont) from March 31 to April, 2006, the documentary film «Brother Yusef» by Nicolas Humbert and Werner Penzel (Production: Balzli & Fahrer, Berne) won the «Uno scuardo nuovo» prize. The award, which comes with a prize sum of 5,000 Euro, was bestowed by a three-member jury that was comprised of the US journalist Scott Foundas, the French director Claire Simon, and Swiss representative Luciano Rigolini, who is program director with Arte France.
Founded in 2001, the Infinity festival features contemporary forms of cinematic language, and has been taking up a unique place in the Italian festival scene. Among the 40,000 viewers, there were 600 filmmakers from various countries and representatives from twenty film academies which work closely with the festival organizers. This year’s thematic focus was US realities and its mirroring in film.

«Brother Yusef» is an intimate filmic portrait of one of the grand masters of US jazz, Yusef Lateef, who is living in seclusion in a forest in Massachussetts. Shot on video, this 52-minute-long film premiered at the 2005 «Visions du réel» in Nyon, Switzerland.
