Awarding of the Swiss Film Prize 2001

The winners of the Swiss Film Prize 2001 have been announced. "Azzurro" by Denis Rabaglia was selected for the category of "Best Fiction Film" and awarded a sum of fifty thousand francs. The award for "Best Documentary Film", also with a sum of fifty thousand francs, went to "Do it" by Sabine Gisiger and Marcel Zwingli. The award for "Best Short Film" was presented to "Summertime" by Anna Luif with a sum of twenty thousand francs. The awards for "Best Actress" and "Best Actor", each with a sum of fifteen thousand francs contributed by Swissperform (the Swiss actors' rights society), were presented to Sabine Timoteo for her role in "L’amour, l’argent, l‘amour"” and Bruno Ganz for his role in "Pane e tulipani".
On the occasion of the 36th Solothurn Film Festival, the prizes were presented to this year's winners by Irene Bignardi, Director of the Locarno Film Festival; Armin Walpen, General Director of Swiss Broadcasting Corporation (SRG idée suisse); Emil Steinberger, cabaret artist, author and actor who also served as this year's Jury President; and jury members Marcel Gisler and Tonia Maria Zindel. The ceremony was moderated by Monika Schärer and Thierry Romanens. The Swiss Film Prize, awarded for the fourth time since its inception, is a collective undertaking of the Swiss Federal Office for Culture, Swiss Broadcasting Corporation (SRG idée suisse), the Locarno International Film Festival, the Nyon Documentary Film Festival "Visions du réel", the Solothurn Film Festival, and the Swiss Film Center.
The jury for the Swiss Film Prize 2001 included, together with Emil Steinberger, film director Marcel Gisler, actress Tonia Maria Zindel, Director of the "Centre Valaisan de l’Image et du Son" Jean-Henry Papilloud, film distributor Hélène Cardis, as well as film publicist and distributor Walter Ruggle.
Along with the monetary prize, the directors of the winning films were also presented with a trophy – a professional pocket-sized "viewfinder" which can be used in their filmmaking activities.
