Award-winners at the Locarno Film Festival included Audience Award for “Giulias Verschwinden”

The 62nd Locarno Film Festival concluded with the presentation of awards on August 15, 2009. Christoph Schaub’s fiction film “Giulias Verschwinden” (production: T&C Film, Zurich) was honoured with the Audience Award, amounting to CHF 20,000. The film celebrated its world premiere at the Piazza Grande on the first weekend of the festival and was among the 17 feature films in the running for the award. Chris Niemeyer’s short fiction film “Las Pelotas” won the Golden Leopard for Best Swiss Short Film (CHF 10,000) in the Leopards of Tomorrow National Competition.
The five-member jury of the Leopards of Tomorrow short film competition, which included Swiss actress and Shooting Star 2009 Celine Bolomey, awarded the Silver Leopard of the Leopards of Tomorrow National Competition (film material worth CHF 6,000) to the Swiss short film “Nachtspaziergang” by Christof Wagner. Judith Kurmann’s BA film “Connie” (production: ZHdK, Zurich) was awarded the Prix Action Light for Best Swiss Newcomer, comprised of equipment worth CHF 36,000. The short film “Kitsch Panorama” by Gilles Monnat (production: ECAL, Lausanne) won the “Cinema e Gioventù” award, amounting to CHF 1,500, presented by a jury comprised of nine young festival guests.



Schaub’s delightful comedy about age, youth and other eternities, starring Corinna Harfouch and Bruno Ganz, captivated the audience of the world’s largest open-air cinema. The film will be released in cinemas in the German-speaking region of Switzerland on October 8 (distribution: Columbus Film, Zurich).
