Award for “Terra Incognita” by Peter Volkart
05.07.2005
Peter Volkart’s film “Terra Incognita” successfully competed against eight short films in the Swiss Short Film Competition at the Neuchâtel International Fantastic Films Festival (NIFFF). It was awarded with the SSA/Suissimage prize of CHF 5,000. More than 13,000 viewers visited the festival which took place from June 28 – July 3, 2005. Over the course of five days, more than 70 films were shown (both short and long films in four competition programs). Among the seven prizes bestowed was Melies d’Or for Best Fantastic European Film.
Is the law of gravity only a consensus based on conincidence? That’s fantastic. The SSA/Suissimage jury very much appreciated this para-physical question; it enjoyed the travels beyond Zentropa via Karfunkel archipelo all the way to Nanopol island. The film’s originality, its dreamlike qualities, and its use of rare film documents, give it a unique aesthetic quality.
Members of the SSA/Suissimage jury were Emmanuelle Delle Piane, author and script writer, Roland Meier, journalist with Webzine.outnow.ch, and Julien Moeschler, owner of the movie cinema ABC in La Chaux-de-Fonds.
